FreshFin facilitates access to tailored funding products for buyers in South Africa's national fresh produce markets — bridging cash flow gaps to deliver growth in the informal food sales channel.
FreshFin is a specialist fintech platform that connects innovative funders to buyers operating within South Africa's national fresh produce markets (NFPMs). We seamlessly deliver cashless funding to enable fresh produce purchases — targeting SME traders who supply the informal market channel and addressing the structural challenges unique to this high-velocity, cash-centric ecosystem.
Our single point of entry model leverages simplicity and rapid approvals, removing friction for buyers who are often un- or under-banked, so they can trade with confidence.
Focused on NFPMs nationwide.
Designed for informal channel traders often excluded by traditional banks.
Proprietary analytics transform trading data into quantifiable risk metrics.
Funds disbursed directly to buyer wallets, usable exclusively for fresh produce.
FreshFin integrates directly with the national markets' trading system and funder platforms, enabling seamless, data-driven operations and real-time buyer wallet uploads.
Our platform interprets market trading data into quantifiable risk metrics, powering the scoring algorithms that funders rely on for confident, data-backed decisions.
We analysed buyer behaviour to create funding products that match weekly trading cycles — purpose-built for the velocity and rhythm of fresh produce markets, not adapted from conventional credit.
FreshFin acts as the primary interface with buyers — managing funding offers responsibly to protect both buyers and funders, ensuring sustainable participation in the marketplace.
We mine trading databases to identify high-quality active buyers, segment them by trading volume bands, and facilitate a fully paperless onboarding process for rapid activation.
Funds are disbursed directly to buyer wallets and are exclusively usable for fresh produce purchases within the closed market system — dramatically reducing misuse and default risk.
POPIA-compliant data management with anonymised data sets. APAC endorsed. All funders on the platform are FSCA regulated — giving all stakeholders confidence and legal certainty. Funding is structured to be Riba-free.
FreshFin integrates with the NFPM trading system, pulling live buyer transaction data into our analytics engine.
Proprietary algorithms score buyers based on real trading history — no credit bureau dependency required.
Matched funders receive risk-scored opportunities. Buyers receive personalised offers via the FreshFin interface.
Approved funds are loaded directly to the buyer's market wallet — ready for use at the trading gate, immediately.
FreshFin is a platform for multiple stakeholders — from the traders buying fresh produce each day, to the funders seeking quality, structured deal flow, to market operators and development stakeholders invested in food security.

Get in touch →FreshFin does not accept unsolicited funding applications. Instead, we continuously analyse trading activity across South Africa's national fresh produce markets and proactively identify buyers whose trading patterns suggest sound cashflow management and a good credit profile. If you have been selected, here is what to expect.
If FreshFin's analytics identify you as a strong candidate, you will be notified via your market trading receipts at point of purchase, as well as by SMS and email, that you may be eligible for funding. This notification is an invitation to apply — not a guarantee of approval.
Onboarding is conducted once, in person with a FreshFin staff member using a tablet device. This session constitutes a formal funding application by you, the buyer, to the funder — facilitated by FreshFin. Your information is captured, your identity is photographed, and you review and accept the terms and conditions digitally. A signed funding agreement is sent to you by email and SMS link immediately after acceptance.
Following onboarding, the funder conducts their own independent Know Your Customer (KYC) verification using your ID number or, in the case of a company, the ID number of the responsible person. This is a regulatory requirement. While most reviews proceed smoothly, a KYC outcome cannot be guaranteed — a small number of applications may be declined at this stage.
Once the funder's KYC review is successfully completed, you will be notified that your funding application has been approved. FreshFin then credits your buyer wallet every Wednesday, with funds ready and available from market opening on Thursday.
Your buyer wallet is linked to a specific national fresh produce market and can only be used for purchases at that market. Wallets are not transferable across markets. Funds are ring-fenced within the closed market system and can only be used for fresh produce purchases.
At any time between 01:15 and 10:00 on the following Wednesday, your buyer card must reflect a credit balance equal to the full funding amount plus the funding charge. This demonstrates responsible cashflow management — a core requirement of the FreshFin programme.
Once the FreshFin system confirms your credit balance within the collection window, your card is debited and the funder's wallet is credited — completing a formal repayment event. The funding amount is then immediately re-credited back to your buyer card, ready for the new trading week. The funding charge is retained in the funder's market wallet.
As long as you reflect your Wednesday credit balance within the collection window (even briefly), your funding revolves automatically with no new applications required — providing continuous working capital to keep trading with confidence.
